Our Story

LeadFoot Racing is here to change the motorsports industry by giving new drivers fun, easy, and affordable ways to get out on track. Whether you want to buy a kit car and build it yourself or you want to have the best arrive and drive experience of your life, we would love to have you out at the track making memories with the LFR team!

Let me explain…

LeadFoot Racing (LFR) was started because our founder and CEO, Jett Johnson, wasn’t able to race when he was younger due to the high entry fees. So while he was studying mechanical engineering he thought one day, “If I can put a satellite into orbit, why cant I make racing more attainable?” From that day forward, he was determined to make it happen, and with the help of a lot of mentors, supportive friends and family, and a few business classes, LFR was born.

We started by researching which racing organizations that were the most approachable for a beginner and went from there to design and build our first car, the Little Dipper. This car was designed over two years and then three generations were built of the car to be used for testing each time. While we were on the third generation of the car, we were performing market research on the all aspects of the car and were working on fourth and fifth generations of the car virtually, but during testing we realized that it wasn’t quite the right fit for longer distance road racing like initially hoped. It performed amazing when it was competing in drift, autocross, and drift events, but we wanted to make sure our car was the perfect, affordable platform for beginners that wanted to do some wheel to wheel racing. This prompted the development of the Project ‘24. If you’d like to know more about the Project ‘24, please head of to Project ‘24 tab at the top of the page.

This change of direction with the Little Dipper then made us rethink the entire kit car idea, not that it was a bad direction but is it the best option for all. The notion of a better idea to make racing more affordable then made us go through every step of racing, from buying a car, to finding events, from racing the car to its maintenance, and lets not even start with fixing damage. These costs and tasks can seem daunting to someone new to motorsports, and they may scare a lot of people off, so while we are designing and testing the Project ‘24, we still need to tackle the issue of people getting to a track for some fun. This lead us to start the LFR Rent-A-Racecar Experience! This idea needs to be affordable, of the highest quality, and be the most memorable we can possible supply, and we can confidently say that those goals have been exceeded in the first season of our program.

This means we are expanding for the upcoming 2024 race season and would live to have you join us! You can help out by partnering with the LFR Team, joining us for a race weekend, or even interacting with our social media pages.
